In 1939,

the Rev. Harry Barrett (later Canon) came to Cultus Lake to offer confirmation classes. In subsequent years, church services were held in the “Red Cross” rooms or in the then, Parks Board office, and conducted by Rev. (later Bishop) David Sommerville of St. John’s Anglican Church, Sardis, and Rev. Ernest, Bishop of Carman United Church, Sardis.
As more families, mostly Army personnel, moved to the lake, the community felt the need for a proper church. Through donations, pledges, and grants from the two founding churches, building preparations began. Blueprints were drawn up by the late F. Clifford Brown, and construction was done mostly by volunteer labour under the expert direction of the late Ole’ Bai, the only paid worker.
It was decided that this should be a Memorial Church to honour those from the area who lost their lives in the Second World War. The Air Force Auxiliary of Chilliwack presented the church with their Book of Remembrance and Honour Roll which is on permanent display at the back of the Church.
Cultus Lake Memorial Church was dedicated on December 17, 1948, as the first integrated United/Anglican Church in Canada. Elsewhere, other congregations may have shared the same buildings for their services, but ours was a combined venture supported by the United Church Presbytery and the Anglican Synod. People of other affiliations were encouraged to join, and Cultus Lake Memorial Church became truly interdenominational, with members of many other denominations included.

Following the dedication ceremony, one unfortunate remark was made by a visiting church dignitary who said, "It won't last. I'll give them six months".

December of 2023 marked 75 years of gathering and worshipping under this roof.

On March 6th, 2022, Cultus Lake Memorial Church's congregation voted to merge with Keystone Chilliwack, a long-time local church based here in Chilliwack. Keystone had been searching for a building to hold its worship services while Cultus Lake Memorial Church needed to replace its recently retired minister.
The merging of the two churches has proven to be God's provision for both and has infused new life and growth into the Cultus Lake Memorial Church community.

Under Pastor Craig Byers' leadership, the transitional period has been a graceful and rewarding process with the final steps completed in early 2025.

This is truly a testimony of the everlasting love of God and the eternal power of His kingdom.
